High-Resolution Feedback in a Compact Motion-Control Test

When selecting a servo motor for CNC equipment, engineers often look beyond rated power and speed. The practical questions are:

  • How stable is the motor at high speed?
  • How much feedback resolution does the system provide?
  • Can the servo integrate into the machine's motion-control architecture?

XARP recently evaluated its closed-loop servo motor using a 25-bit encoder, including a high-speed running test at 6000 rpm. During the observed test, the motor maintained stable rotation on a desktop setup without obvious visible shaking.

A 25-Bit Encoder Provides High-Resolution Feedback

The motor's encoder provides 25-bit resolution. That means one revolution can theoretically be divided into 33,554,432 feedback positions, with a theoretical angular resolution per count of approximately 0.00386°.

For CNC machine builders and automation engineers, this provides a high-resolution feedback source for the servo control loop. It is important to distinguish this encoder resolution from the final positioning accuracy of a complete CNC machine.

Servo System Applied to Pipe Cutting Machine

The pipe cutting equipment is equipped with self-developed servo systems to ensure high-precision, high-speed and stable processing of pipe cutting. Supported by the XP1900-25C 6-axis handling robot, fully automatic loading and unloading of pipes is realized. It accomplishes unmanned connection of the whole process including material picking, station feeding and finished product unloading. It fully demonstrates our integrated supporting capacity of servo systems and robots, and truly restores flexible automation.

Why This Matters for CNC Applications

A CNC machine requires coordinated motion between its controller, servo drive, motor, transmission, and mechanical structure. If the feedback resolution is insufficient, the controller receives less detailed information about the motor's actual position.

With a high-resolution encoder, the servo system has significantly more positional information available for closed-loop control. This makes the configuration suitable for evaluating applications such as:

  • CNC axis motion
  • Rotary positioning
  • Automated machinery
  • Robot joints
  • Precision positioning mechanisms

High-Speed Stability at 6000 rpm

The motor was operated at 6000 rpm during the test. At the tested condition, there was no obvious visible shaking while the motor was running on the desktop. For machine builders, this is relevant because unwanted vibration can influence:

  • Surface finish
  • Mechanical resonance
  • Component life
  • Positioning behavior
  • Operator perception of machine quality

Actual machine-level performance still needs to be validated under the final mechanical load.

A Motion Component for Machine Builders

The application demonstrates how XARP approaches servo development:

High-Resolution Feedback → Closed-Loop Control → Stable High-Speed Operation → Industrial Integration

The synchronious magnetic servo motor can be evaluated as part of a complete motion-control system rather than as an independent rotating component.
