Robotic Automation for Pipe Drain Cleaner Component Production

XARP robotic arm for pipe drain cleaner component production automation

XP1440-15W Robotic Welding for Pipe Drain Cleaner Components in China

A customer in China purchased two XARP XP1440-15W industrial robots for the gas-shielded welding of components used in pipe drain cleaning equipment.

The project covers not only the robotic welding application itself, but also customer training and programming. After training was completed, the customer's personnel indicated that the remaining simple welding programs could be handled by their own team.

According to feedback from the customer, no defective parts were reported in the first production batch after the robotic welding setup was put into operation. This result refers specifically to this customer's first production batch and is not presented as a guaranteed defect rate for other welding applications.

Robotic Welding of Pipe Drain Cleaner Components

The application uses gas-shielded welding for components used in pipe drain cleaning equipment. The customer's production includes relatively simple spot-welding points and welding programs, which the customer's personnel considered straightforward to program after training.

The customer selected the XARP XP1440-15W for the project, with two robots purchased for its production requirements. Rather than describing the project simply as general robotic automation, the actual production task is robotic welding of the customer's pipe drain cleaner components.

Watch the Robotic Welding Application

The following video shows the XP1440-15W robotic welding application for the customer's components.

Customer Training and Independent Programming

Training has been completed for the customer's personnel as part of the project.

According to the customer's personnel, the robot programming and basic operation were straightforward to understand after training. For the second robot, the customer indicated that its team could independently create the remaining simple spot-welding programs required for production.

This is useful in a practical production environment because the customer's own personnel can handle straightforward program adjustments after becoming familiar with the robot and its programming workflow.

The customer's comments reflect its experience with this particular application and training process rather than a general performance guarantee for every robotic welding project.

First Production Batch: Customer Reported No Defective Parts

Quality feedback from initial production is another important part of this application.

According to the customer, no defective parts were reported in the first production batch produced after the robotic welding setup was put into operation.

This result is specific to the first batch reported by this customer. Actual welding quality in other projects depends on factors such as the workpiece, material, joint design, welding process, fixture, welding parameters and production conditions.

For a new robotic welding project, these factors should therefore be evaluated based on the actual parts and manufacturing requirements.

Pre-Delivery Laser Calibration at XARP

Before robot delivery, calibration is part of XARP's factory preparation process.

The following video shows high-precision laser calibration being carried out before shipment. This calibration footage is separate from the customer's pipe drain cleaner welding process and shows part of the robot preparation process before delivery.

Planning a Similar Robotic Welding Project?

A robotic welding solution should be evaluated around the actual workpiece and welding requirements rather than selected only by application category.

For manufacturers considering a similar project, useful information for technical evaluation includes:

  • Workpiece drawings and photos
  • Material
  • Workpiece dimensions and weight
  • Weld locations and joint requirements
  • Welding process
  • Fixture requirements
  • Production requirements
  • Photos or videos of the current welding process

With this information, XARP can evaluate the robot and welding-cell configuration according to the actual application.
